Kajishima-sensei’s 2001 AIC “Comic Love” interview

Hey gang!

With the news that an OAV4 is potentially in the works, I decided to republish Kajishima-sensei’s 2001 interview with AIC Comic Love magazine since the AIC website that hosted it for so many years is defunct. I left things “as is,” meaning that Engrish and the like are still going to be in the old, official AIC translation.  Despite its age, it is still fun to see how Tenchi Muyo! GXP, Tenchi Muyo! OVA 3, and Tenchi Muyo! War on Geminar were being conceived back then.

Here are parts 1 & 2 of the interview, and here is part 3 of the interview.

BTW, if anyone has access to the original Japanese text and can share, let me know. If so, I’d actually like to get this retranslated some day.

I do have confirmation from Mr. Toru Miura in person that Kajishima is hard at work animating OAV 4.

Well I didn’t go into detail. I asked mainly to meet Hayashi, and he blabbered about the tenchi project. There is probably no direction yet is its just in pre-production, so most like now its just K-sensei writing and drawing. Kajishima has never really directed, except partly in Agga Ruter. I haven’t seen anything from Koruda or Yatagi lately, but I assume that they will be writer and director respectively.

I believe Kajishima-sensei directed episode 17 of GXP, mainly because he didn’t want Nabeshin changing things since those events teased things that had happened in the still to come OVA 3.

Anyway, thanks for the info! 😀

I remember you mentioning that, but I don’t see official credits of that, but it does she he has written it so it’s like the same. He already has total control, but he cant do everything himself. Certainly, whomever is brought in will have to do his bidding. To direct, I believe would mean direct contact with others, and we all know he doesn’t like that.

      He already has total control…

Well, not total control. My understanding is that Kajishima-sensei wasn’t pleased with how Nabeshin made some changes as the director, including modifications to the NB character. As such, the word is that this is why in episode 17, Kajishima-sensei had NB in the doghouse.

Has there been any further news about OVA 4?
Have they evolved beyond writing and drawings.

Yeah, just got a post up. I wanted to do this earlier, but my weekend has been insane with work, which has left me pretty out of it. ^_^; Thanks for the alert though. 😀
